We couldn’t do what we do without the support of our incredible community of streamers, and as part of our Stream Team Spotlighted Streamer interviews we recently talked to SpecialEffect Ambassador and great friend of the charity, Marta!

Hello Marta! For those who may not know you already, please introduce yourself.

Hi! My name is Marta and I’m a Digital Design Manager at SEGA, and I also stream as ThisIsMartaaa on Twitch. I stream a variety of content, from fitness to video games! I like to think my streams reflect me as a person; I strive to make them inclusive and kind, with a dose of high energy and a pinch of sass! On my streams we love having a chat and just hanging out together as a community.

Nothing better than a kind and chaotic atmosphere! How did you get started as a creator?

Initially, I started streaming as a host on the official SEGA channel, and many of my colleagues suggested that I should do my own thing… so I did! I started creating content on my personal channel nearly three years ago, and it’s been a blast!

You could almost say it’s been a… GameBLAST! Tell us, what’s some of your favourite content to make online?

Streaming is definitely one of my favourite ways to make content online. I get to interact with people from all over the world and connect with them on similar interests and passions. I love how interactive streaming is, and how humbling it can be to listen to others and learn from different experiences.

That’s awesome! You mentioned that you like streaming video games, which are some of your favourites and why?

Oh, this question is always a tough one! I have many favourite games, but two that I played more recently are Yakuza 0 and Yakuza: Like a Dragon. When I played them, I was going through a rough time with my mental health, and Yakuza 0 in particular had something special to it that really helped me. It was a bundle of happiness being able to play it, and it was also the first game I ever streamed, so it certainly has a special space in my heart!

So, how did you hear about SpecialEffect, and why have you chosen to support us?

I first met SpecialEffect over ten years ago when I first stumbled upon one of your stands at an event and was amazed at the  work you were doing! I had the opportunity to start fundraising eight years ago, running the London 10k, and haven’t stopped since! SpecialEffect’s work means a lot to me, I can’t imagine not being able to play video games myself! I’ve also had people in my life that I never got to play games with because their disabilities stopped them doing so. Being able to support SpecialEffect in making sure it’s game on for everyone really means a lot!

We’re so thankful for your incredible support! What are some of your best tips for others who might want to run a charity event?

Honestly, just have fun while spreading awareness for a cause you care about! I see many people putting way too much pressure on themselves to raise a lot of money, and sometimes they seem to lose focus. Yes, raising money is certainly helpful, but never underestimate the power of spreading awareness. People can’t help unless they know a cause needs support, so making sure you talk about it is always a positive step. If one new person finds out about a cause you care about, and decides to help, you’ve already done an amazing job!

Thank you so much for your time, Marta! Where can people find you online to hang out?

I’m currently on a content creation hiatus due to health, however always feel free to come say hello and join me!
