Marathon magnificence! Thank you to our runners

A massive THANK YOU to all our amazing marathon runners. After the success of last year’s virtual London Marathon, this year’s hybrid event meant SpecialEffect had supporters running the London Marathon all over the country as well as round the iconic route in London itself.
Luckily for this year’s runners, the weather conditions couldn’t have been more different from last year. The torrential rain experienced last year came and went on the Saturday, leaving perfect weather for the run – and Ed Rumley’s wish after last year, to be able to “run it rather than swim it” was granted!
Andrew Greensmith (Red Kite Games), Mark Baldwin (New Star Games), Jim Jagger (Rockstar), Andrew Pooley (EA), Ed Rumley (EA), Andy Dunn (First Touch Games), James Pavitt (Sony) and Jordan Cross all took part on the streets of London and got to experience the full London Marathon event.
“What an atmosphere – my first London Marathon didn’t disappoint!” said SpecialEffect Ambassador Jim Jagger, who came down from Edinburgh to take part.
This was his first London Marathon, as it was for many of our runners, with Jordan Cross from our Twin Town crew, “smashing it in his first marathon” and Ryan Bickham and Andrea Martin finding that “perseverance paid off” to get round their chosen virtual routes. Dave Blewett also demonstrated one of the advantages of running the London Marathon virtually – with his pictures capturing a stunning Yorkshire route that couldn’t be more different to the London one!
The London Marathon is an extremely challenging event and we are so privileged to have had our biggest team yet, with ten supporters choosing to run the virtual event alongside our eight London runners. Chris Mellor (Aardvark Swift), Ian Goodall (Aardvark Swift), Dave Blewett (Sumo), Ryan Bickham, Andrea Martin, Jonathan Woodhouse, Kelly-Sue Budde (Miniclip), Bob Young, Johnny Carberry, and our very own Nick Streeter (SpecialEffect) all took part and managed to complete the gruelling distance on their own with only family cheering them on.
A big CONGRATULATIONS to you all! We can’t wait to see pictures of you with your medals, it’s such an incredible achievement and we’re bowled over by your support.
If you’re interested in running the London Marathon for SpecialEffect in 2022, please get in touch with Ellie who can add you to our ballot waiting list. The event will take place in October again, and we have a limited number of places. We will draw our ballot a week after the official London Marathon ballot, so it’s also worth entering their ballot too – the bigger the SpecialEffect team, the better!
