All of us at SpecialEffect are deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Ian Richardson, who was a dear friend and ambassador of the charity for many years. Our thoughts are with Ian’s family, Sumo Digital colleagues and many friends across the wider games industry at this difficult time.
Ian was a gentle, caring and much-loved figure across the gaming world, whose sense of fun and good humour will long be remembered. His ready smile and bonhomie were never more evident than at events like the SpecialEffect Twin Town Challenge, where his enthusiasm helped inspire many other supporters to join him in doing all he could to support our work.
Our SpecialEffect Ambassador team has lost one of its brightest stars, but our memories will endure for many years to come, including this one shared by Dr Mick earlier today:
“One of my most vivid recollections of Ian is when Nick and myself happened to bump into him on a street in San Francisco during GDC a few years back. He had a broad, relaxed grin and, even though his diary was no doubt full-to-bursting, he somehow found the time to give us all the advice he could to make sure that we were as well-briefed as possible to help us get the utmost benefit for SpecialEffect from our time at GDC.”
Ian was a man we feel truly privileged to have known and whose invaluable encouragement and passionate support for SpecialEffect we will never forget.
