48 games industry football teams went head-to-head in the SpecialEffect Northern and Southern Masters five-a-side tournaments last week, with Sony and Jagex battling through to lift the respective trophies.

Already a major annual fixture in the games industry sporting calendar, this year the competition was split across the country to accommodate the increasing demand for places.

Jagex were crowned champions at the Powerleague Shoreditch venue in London, with NaturalMotion claiming the Plate knockout. Sony’s PlayStation FC team pipped Playground Games to the title at Powerleague Liverpool in a 4-3 thriller, while the Aardvark Swift team prevailed in the Plate.

Jagex’s gloveman Alec won Player of the Day award in London, and PlayStation FC’s Gary Hornby took the accolade in Liverpool.

A huge thank you to the generosity of First Touch Games who were the headline sponsor for both days, and they were kindly joined by sponsors Ripstone and Rezzil in Liverpool. It’s through their wonderful generosity, and that of all the teams and supporters, that the events look set to have raised an incredible £10k so far (to be confirmed) in support of our work. What a fantastic feast of football – can’t wait to do it all again next year!
